Australian-born Craig Cooper launched his namesake womenswear fashion label Cooper St in 1988. Starting out in the Paddington markets of Sydney, where Craig would sell the fashion collections that consisted of only a few styles – Craig would by 15 metres of fabrics in three different colours, get them made into tops and get them delivered within a few days to hit the markets on Saturday. This was an important learning process for Craig – it was this process that enabled him to figure out what were the winning colours that he could then go on to produce in bigger numbers. It wasn’t just his time at the markets that helped Craig to make Cooper St a success. He gained useful experience previously in his career. With a short stint at Cue, followed by a Australian swimwear brand Brian Rochford, he picked up the skills needed to make his fashion label the highly respected Australian fashion label it is today.
As of 2012 Cooper St has went from a single market stall to retailing in 350 independent boutiques throughout Australia, as well as through Australian department stores. Additionally, the label opened its first standalone boutique in 2009 in Sydney.
For over 25 years, Cooper St has captured the essence of the modern Australian woman. Synonymous with style and elegance, the Cooper St philosophy centers on contemporary design, individuality and the unique Australian lifestyle. Their collections combine vibrant colours and on-trend silhouettes with quality fabrics and exclusive prints. The Cooper St woman is on trend, urban chic and effortless. She styles with a playful sensibility that’s fun, feminine and fashionable.
